David Westphal, who used to be Washington editor for McClatchy Newspapers, is now executive-in-residence at USC’s Annenberg School for Communication. On Dec. 1, he spoke at the Federal Trade Commission workshop, “How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?” His talk give examples of businesses and governments that are taking on the role of news providers. He admits that there will be conflicts of interest and propaganda in some cases, but leaves off with a sense of hope that the public will end up more knowledgeable.
