New Auditing Rules May be Inflating Newspaper Numbers
Higher circulation numbers may not be what they seem

The Huffington Post reports that recent, more flexible accounting regulations allow for the double counting of bundled items, such as subscriptions to print and online. The result: a number of newspapers are reporting much higher numbers in their online subscriptions than they did even one year ago, but they might not be selling more copies.
